Pair Escape Weston 3-Alarm House Fire

WESTON, MA — Two people escaped a burning home in Weston Tuesday morning thanks to the actions of a passerby.

The fire at 590 South Ave. broke out near 8 a.m. Two people sleeping inside the home were woken up by a passerby who saw the flames burning outside the home, Weston Fire Department Chief David Soar said.

The fire likely started outside the home and spread to the building, firefighters said. The flames were largely contained by about 9:30 a.m.

The fire briefly forced the closure of Route 30 between Brown and Winter streets behind the state police barracks.

The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement on Tuesday warning of increased fire danger across Massachusetts due to gusty winds and extremely dry air.

"A very dry airmass combined with gusty winds will result in elevated fire weather concerns today. Northeast winds will gust to 20 to 30 mph. Minimum relative humidities will drop to around 15 percent in northern CT and interior MA, and 20 to 30 percent in Rhode Island and eastern MA away from the immediate coast," the warning said.
