Nat'l Prepareness month - You Could Be the Help Until Help Arrives

Helping someone in distress thru Psychological First Aid

How Can We Support Someone Who May be Experiencing Distress? This week’s Preparedness Month tips come from Psychological First Aid (PFA) trainer Lisa Kaufman. First, be aware of your own emotional resilience [https://www.lifehack.org/845528/emotional-resilience]. If you feel able to help others in a crisis, think about PFA as basic first aid for a psychological wound, with similar steps: Protect them from further harm, Direct them to a safe environment, and Connect them with further support as needed. To learn more about PFA, look for in-person training or consider an online course like this one [https://www.nctsn.org/resources/psychological-first-aid-pfa-online]. Just like with physical emergencies, we should be prepared to “be the help until help arrives” for emotional crises as well.
