Wayland-Weston Crew Picks Up Wins At State, National Championships

WESTON, MA — The Wayland-Weston Crew team ended the season sending multiple athletes to state and national championships, according to the team.

The crew team competed in the Massachusetts Public Rowing Association State Championship at the end of May, winning the team trophy at the event. The team followed that win in Florida at the U.S. Rowing Youth National Championships held June 8 to 11.

Twenty-three Wayland and Weston athletes went to the national championship and placed in multiple races. The results for Weston athletes included:

• Two Girls Straight 4 boats placed 5th and 11th (Siena Flanigon, Natalia Serov, Jackie Stjernfeldt)
• Girls Pair placed 16th (Wayland Athletes)
• Boys Coxed 4 placed 20th (Thomas Lee)
• Boys Pair and Boys Single placed 17th (TJ Dahl, Andrew Orio and Zack Kano)
• Boys Straight 4 placed 25th (Wayland Athletes)

Founded in 2000, Wayland-Weston Crew is a dual-town varsity sport for girls and boys in grades 9 to 12 at Wayland and Weston high schools. The team races in fall long-distance seasons and spring sprint seasons. The team has won medals at state, regional and national regattas. No rowing experience is required to join. Scholarships are available so that every student can row regardless of family financial circumstances. The organization also offers rowing for middle school students.
