"Focus on Feeders" Midwinter Bird Count

When/Where: All day Saturday and Sunday from the comfort of your own home, in front of a window with a view of your backyard and/or birdfeeder.

The Buzz: Mass Audubon is asking for help conducting its annual "Focus of Feeders" midwinter bird count. This just means you keep track of how many of a single species you see in your yard at a given time and submit the info to Mass Audubon for a chance to win prizes. There are helpful charts and a report form available.

The Buzz: Wondering how you can make a statement to companies regarding their policies on fossil fuels? This discussion will address the pros and cons of individuals and institutions divesting holdings of all fossil fuel company stock.

Verrill Farm February Pancake Breakfast

When/Where: Saturday, 9 a.m.-noon at Verrill Farm (11 Wheeler Rd #A, Concord)

Why Go: Verrill Farm kicks off February with the second of its popular winter Pancake Breakfasts. Stop by for a hearty breakfast served in the heated greenhouse before or after morning activities and errands -- no reservations necessary. Everyone who attends the February Pancake Breakfast is eligible to enter a drawing for Verrill Farm’s Valentine’s Dinner for Two, an $80 value.

"Our History Matters: Rekindling Awe, Aspiration and Civic Attachment"

When/Where: Sunday, 2 p.m. at Sudbury Town Hall (322 Concord Road, Sudbury)

The Buzz: Historian and scholar William Hosley will be talking with guests about the importance of history and the need to rekindle awe, aspiration and civic attachment in our local communities.

Price: Free, but donations will be accepted.

Winter Carnival at NARA Park

When/Where: Saturday, noon to 4 p.m. at NARA Park (25 Ledgerock Way, Acton)

Why Go: This carnival promises everything from human dogsled races (not even sure what that means) to marshmallow toasting, music, a Chinese martial arts demo and more.

Price: Admission is free; some activities require a fee.
