To Do in Westwood: Neighbors in Action Meeting on September 17

Neighbors in Action will be having their September meeting on 17th at 7pm in the Community Room at the Westwood Public Library. Networking will occur from 7pm-7:30pm, and then the meeting will begin at 7:30pm. Neighbors in Action is “a grassroots civic engagement organization that offers residents of Westwood and surrounding areas a forum for dialogue and activism on issues of common concern.” Three issues about which discussion will occur is 40B Housing in Westwood, perspectives on Massachusetts Ballot Question 1, and support of Yes on 3.
State of Massachusetts' Chapter 40B housing is the state’s affordable housing law. According to the town’s website, Westwood is presently above the mandated 10%. As a 40B addition was part of the Islington Center Articles, a group of residents who were at the Town Meeting and had questions have been researching this issue and will be speaking at this meeting about it.
Massachusetts Ballot Question 1 involves the staffing ratio at hospitals: “ A yes vote is a vote in favor of establishing patient assignment limits for registered nurses working in hospitals; A no vote is a vote against establishing patient assignment limits for registered nurses working in hospitals.” Arguments on both sides of this ballot question will be presented at this Neighbors in Action meeting.
Neighbors in Action will also be discussing the importance of voting “yes” on Ballot Measure 3, Gender Identity Anti-Discrimination Veto Referendum. Yes on 3 is a crucial civil and human rights vote. Neighbors in Action is also among the sponsors of the upcoming Community Forum on Transgender Equality at Temple Beth David on October 3, 7pm-8:30pm.
