Braintree-Weymouth Landing: Present and Future
The Landing has seen improvements in recent years, but there are still empty storefronts and plans for the future.
The Braintree-Weymouth Landing has been steadily changing, most notably with the opening of Passport in April 2013 and the $2.4 million state-funded aesthetic and pedestrian improvements that started in the summer of 2011.
The revitalization included new lamps, benches, trash cans, trees and parking signage. The area has unmetered parking on both sides of the street and a public lot, with a two hour limit, behind the businesses on one side of the road.
The site at 2-10 Commercial Street, home to The Landing Pub and Ultimate Pizza, is expected to be upgraded in the near future. The building, constructed in the 1930s, will be replaced with new facility, complete with retail space and a 95-seat restaurant.
The Landing is split by Brookside Road and both the Braintree and Weymouth sides of the business district have open storefronts. The vacancies range in size and former tenants with barber shops, restaurants and the large former Chair Fair store. Chair Fair moved up the road from Weymouth to Braintree.
Progress is evident as is room for improvement. As a resident, what do you think about the revitalization and what would you like to see in the Braintree-Weymouth Landing in the future?
