Charges Expected In Crash That Killed 4 In Florida: Report

The 26-year-old Florida man behind the wheel of a pickup truck police said rear-ended the family's van "will be charged with something."

A Florida man will face charges in the crash that killed four members of a vacationing Massachusetts family just miles from Disney World, according to a report.

A Florida Highway Patrol spokesperson told The Boston Globe that Lucas Dos Reis Laurindo, 26, of Kissimmee, Fla., "will be charged with something, but it’s really just too early to say."

A spokesperson already said it was not believed Laurindo was under the influence of drugs or alcohol during the crash. He volunteered a blood sample.

Police said Laurindo's pickup truck rear-ended a van carrying eight members of a family from the South Shore Tuesday evening on State Road 429 in Osceola County. The full-speed impact caused the van to roll over, killing four members of the family: Scarlett Smith, 5, her brother, Jackson, 11, and their mother Julie, 41, all of Whitman, as well as children's grandmother, Josephine Fay, 76, of Weymouth.

The children's father, grandfather and two other siblings — all of whom were also in the van — were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
