Charity Group Aims To Pay Off Fallen Weymouth Cop's Mortgage

The Tunnel To Towers Foundation is donating $100,000 and is running a fundraiser to help pay for Officer Michael Chesna's mortgage.

WEYMOUTH, MA — A charity group is now spearheading an effort to pay for the mortgage of Weymouth Police Officer Michael Chesna.

The Stephen Siller Tunnel To Towers Foundation announced Wednesday that they will donate $100,000 towards the mortgage and will help run a fundraiser to pay for the rest. All proceeds from the CrowdRise campaign will go towards the Chesna family.

Chesna was killed Sunday morning while responding to a report of a hit-and-run involving his accused killer Emanuel Lopes near South Shore Hospital. Authorities say Lopes threw a rock at Chesna and used the officer's gun to shoot him about 10 times. He also killed 77-year-old Vera Adams a short time later, police said
