Friends of South Shore Hospital Offering Five Scholarships

Applications are now being accepted for the Friends of South Shore Hospital scholarships.

The Friends of South Shore Hospital offer five scholarships annually for students and nursing professionals. 

Applications are available at the South Shore Hospital concierge, at southshorehospital.org/scholarships, or by calling the Friends at (781) 624-8520.

Marion C. Martinsen Scholarship Eligibility (Applications must be postmarked by May 31, 2013 to be considered) 

1. Applicant must be a high school senior or graduate from an accredited public, private, or parochial school. 
2. Applicant’s most recent grade point average must be a B- or higher. 
3. Applicant must presently be enrolled at an accredited school pursuing an education to 
become a registered nurse. 
4. Applicants who are currently employed by South Shore Hospital or who have immediate 
family members employed by South Shore Hospital will be given preference. 
5. Applicants who are residents of the South Shore will be given preference. 
6. Applicant’s financial needs may be considered a factor only after the preceding criteria are met.

Terry Ries Scholarship Eligibility (Applications must be postmarked by August 30, 2013 to be considered) 

1. Candidate must have been a South Shore Hospital employee for a minimum of one year, full or regular part-time, and plan to maintain employment at South Shore Hospital for a 
minimum of one year after scholarship is awarded. 
2. Candidate must be enrolled or accepted into an accredited program to begin or to advance 
a nursing career. 
3. Candidate’s most recent grade point average must be a B- or higher. 
4. Candidate must have exhausted all available hospital tuition reimbursements.

All applications will be screened by The Friends’ Scholarship Committee. One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a South Shore Hospital employee who meets the criteria.

The Friends of South Shore Hospital Scholarship— Volunteers and Families Eligibility (Applications must be postmarked by June 28, 2013 to be considered)

1. Applicant must be an active volunteer, child or grandchild of an active South Shore Hospital or home care division volunteer. 
2. Applicant must be a high school senior or graduate from an accredited public, private, or parochial school. 
3. Applicant must be presently enrolled at an accredited school pursuing a degree in a health related field. 
4. Applicant’s most recent grade point average must be a B- or higher. 
5. Applicant who is a resident of the South Shore will be given preference. 
6. Applicant’s financial need may be considered a factor only after the preceding criteria are met.

All applications will be screened by The Friends’ Scholarship Committee. 
The value of the scholarship will be $1,000.
