Mother Of Alleged Cop Killer Says Son Has Mental Health Problems
Lopes's cousin called the shooting "shocking."

WEYMOUTH, MA — The mother of the man accused of killing two people, including a Weymouth Police officer, during a shooting Sunday morning says she is heartbroken over the deaths.
Emanuel Lopes's mother told NBC Boston that the mental health system failed her son, who has mental heath issues. His mother, who declined to give her name, said he was last treated at South Shore Mental Health in Quincy and refused to take his medication. She also said she has a restraining order against her son.
Lopes's cousin, who also didn't give their name, called the shooting, "shocking."

Lopes is in police custody at South Shore Hospital after allegedly shooting Officer Michael Chesna and Vera Adams.
Lopes was due to be arraigned Monday but was determined to be medically unfit. He could be arraigned Tuesday at either Quincy District Court or South Shore Hospital, according to the Norfolk County District Attorney's office.
