Weymouth Girls Track Wins First Division Title in School History
The undefeated Weymouth High School track team tied Newton North on Wednesday for a share of the Carey Division Championship.
The Weymouth High School girls track and field team is Carey Division co-champions thanks to a string of impressive performances and personal bests against perennial powerhouse Newton North.
The 68-68 meet at Weymouth High School on Wednesday gave the Weymouth High girls team it's first division title in school history.
"It's a special thing for us," coach Mike Miller said after the meet.
Weymouth's senior tri-captains were among the top performers. Jen Kimball earned 15 points for the Wildcats with wins in the 100 m hurdles and 400 m hurdles. She finished second in the long jump and high jump.
Nostia Amazan and Jill Riley both had personal bests in the shot put, finishing first and third, respectively. Amazan threw 41'1" on her final throw to win the event. Riley, who hadn't topped 30' all season, threw 32'.
Senior Kristin Graham also stepped up for her team, shattering her best discus throw of the year by more than 15 feet. Graham threw 81'1" to earn first place, besting her high of 65'.
"I've never seen a kid do that," said Miller of Graham's improvement.
Miller listed off several other members of his team, from freshman to seniors, who "dug deep," in the historic victory.
"They wanted it more than they ever have," said Miller of his team.
