Weymouth High School Students Paint Rainbow Crosswalk For Pride Month

WEYMOUTH, MA — Pride Month is here! To celebrate, Weymouth High School now welcomes students and staff with a rainbow crosswalk.

Members of Weymouth High School's Human Rights Coalition painted stripes in front of the school Tuesday afternoon after the Superintendent of Weymouth Schools approved the idea.

Superintendent Robert Wargo also approved hanging flags prominently outside each of Weymouth's 13 schools during Pride month but did not approve of putting them on a flag pole below the United States flag. Instead - they will be hung on the building. He said further consideration will be made to see about arranging for a separate flag pole at each of the schools in the future.

Members of the Weymouth Pride Project and students in the high school had been pushing for this win for quite some time.

"It's both gratifying and amazing how many people came up and said how happy they were seeing this many people showing support," Weymouth Pride Project Volunteer Michael Yavorsky told Patch in reference to their partnership with Weymouth High School's Human Rights Coalition.
