Weymouth Pharmacist Participates in Prescription Drug Safety Summit
Pharmacist David Morgan recently gave a presentation entitled "Prescription Drugs: What You Don't Know Can Hurt You."
A Weymouth pharmacist recently joined Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey at a regional Senior Summit to discuss prescription drug safety. The program was presented by the District Attorney's Office and Quincy Medical Center last week.
David Morgan was one of the presenters of “Prescription Drugs: What You Don’t Know Can Hurt You," a seminar for dozens of area seniors at Quincy Council on Aging’s Kennedy Center.
“Prescription medicines have just as much effect on the body as alcohol,” Morgan said. “It is just as dangerous as drunk driving.”
Morgan's presentation was a collaboration with Mary Maguire from AAA of Southern New England. The presentation covered the "impact of prescription medications on driving, physical safety, and their role in fueling the current epidemic of opiate abuse."
“Crime and injury prevention is an important piece of what modern law enforcement needs to do, and we are most effective when we are working hand-in-hand with community partners," said Morrissey.
The event also featured a presentation about depression in seniors by Quincy Medical Center’s head of psychiatry, Peggy Johnson, MD, Louise LaRaia, RN and Mental Health Counselor Heather Petitpas.
