Weymouth School Awarded Healthy School Food Champions Grant

William Seach Primary School received $10,000 from the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation's Healthy School Food Champions program.

Weymouth's William Seach Primary School is one of 10 Massachusetts schools to receive a $10,000 grant from the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation’s Healthy School Food Champions program.

The funds will "ensure students have access to healthy food by helping schools to purchase equipment and fresh, healthy produce and train staff in healthy food preparation," according to a release from the Harvard Pilgrim Foundation.

The recipients were chosen based on a commitment to high-quality food and health.

“The school cafeteria plays a key role in any effort to create healthier environments for kids where they can receive the fresh, nutritious foods they need to be healthy and successful students,” said Karen Voci, Executive Director of the Harvard Pilgrim Foundation. “This grant is a wonderful way to provide schools with the tools they need in order to make healthy choices the easy choices for students.”

Grant recipients include the Boston Public Schools, Waltham Public Schools and other Massachusetts school districts.
