Students, Gain Community Service Hours Through Relay for Life

Wilmington High School students receive Community Service Hours for participation in the local Relay for Life which raises funds for the American Cancer Society’s fight against cancer. Julie Rauseo, ACS Community Manager, has coordinated with the school to work out details of the program. The event is Friday night June 19th at the Middle School.

Rauseo reports that hours are earned in several ways. Forexample, raising $250 and doing two hours of volunteer workfor Relay for Life gives a student seven hours community service credit.

Since students must earn hours each year and National Honor Society students must earn extra, this is an important opportunity. It is not too late to become involved for this year because the credit goes against the next school year.

Work is done the week of, day of, and day after the June 19 celebration. Volunteers may do anything from working at registration desks to helping with decorations to serving (and eating!) pizza.
