Wilmington Police Statement on Market Basket Threat

Police address situation that unfolded Thursday afternoon. Anyone with any information is asked to call police.

Wilmington Police issued a statement following a reported bomb threat Thursday afternoon at the Market Basket Plaza.

Officials say at 4:08 p.m. Thursday afternoon, units from the Wilmington Police Department responded to Market Basket located at 260 Main St.t for a reported threat to the property received by store employees. Market Basket and surrounding stores were evacuated as a safety precaution.

K9 Units from the Massachusetts State Police and the Transit Police responded and provided assistance in a search of the property. The threat was not found to be credible.

Wilmington Police want to thank to the Massachusetts State Police, Transit Police, North Reading Police, Tewksbury Police, & Reading Police for their assistance.

Officials say at this time, the incident is under investigation by the Wilmington Police Department Criminal Bureau.
