State Rep. Candidate John DePinto Brings Historical "Fireside Chat" Format to Facebook
With only two weeks remaining before the election for State Representative, one local candidate from the 31st Middlesex District looks to bring FDR's historic "fireside chat" broadcasts back to life, using his Facebook and Twitter pages. John DePinto, a Democratic candidate running against the incumbent to represent Stoneham and Winchester, is hosting a Virtual Fireside Chat on Aug. 29 at 8 p.m. - streamed live to the public through his Facebook page. Constituents will have the opportunity to interact with DePinto and ask questions using Facebook Chat or the Twitter hashtag #JDPFiresideChat. DePinto hopes taking the "fireside chat" to new media will open the communication gates with even further for voters, and increase voter turnout at the polls on Sept. 6.
"FDR's fireside chat brought the politician and the family together to talk about virtues, change, honor," says DePinto. "It bridged the gap between individuals and their politician. I want to do the same thing. Only this time, the family is hanging out by the computer instead of the radio." DePinto will stream live from his own living room, by his fireplace, with the help of UStream, Facebook, and, of course, his staff.
To get involved in the Virtual Fireside Chat, individuals are invited to log in through the Elect John DePinto Facebook page located at www.facebook.com/ElectJohnDePinto, through his Ustream page located at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/elect-john-depinto, or by following the #JDPFiresideChat hashtag on Twitter.
