POLICE LOG: Man Arrested for Assault With a Dangerous Weapon

An excerpt from the WPD police log. The following arrest information was supplied by the Woburn Police Department. The arrest does not indicate a conviction.

The following is an excerpt from the Woburn Police Department log. Please note that this is a sampling of activity in the log, not a complete account. We report all arrests included in the daily police log.

At 11:44 a.m. police stopped a vehicle, a Jeep Grand Cherokee, that Malden Police were searching for based on an assault with a dangerous weapon in that town. Police pulled the vehicle over on Inwood Drive and searched the driver and passenger who were father and son.

Police found a four-inch knife in the pocket of the son. He said he had pulled the knife in self defense because the other man “was coming at him with a pen.”

Malden police did a drive-by with the victim for identification and that came out positive. Malden police put him in custody.

Police arrested Derek Michael Mozuch, 24, of 3131 Inwood Drive, Woburn, on a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon.

 

Other Incidents

May 17-

At 4:08 p.m. a man came to the station to report a larceny. He said that the wheel center caps from his Porsche were stolen while the vehicle was parked at the Woburn Mall. He said the vehicle was parked between 11:15 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The man also said that when he called IRA Porsche they told him that another person had had the wheel center caps stolen from their vehicle the week before in Woburn. It is believed someone is selling them online. Caps valued at $251.

 

At 4:46 p.m. police responded to the Family Dollar on a report of a past theft. The caller said he was at the store the night before and left his wallet behind. When he returned that morning nobody had seen it.

Police watched the surveillance tape and saw the caller in the store and put his wallet down on the counter. After he left a black male wearing khaki pants, a white tee shirt and a black tee shirt around his neck entered the stores. As he was checking out it can be seen he took the caller’s wallet and placed it n his pocket. Employee did not know his identification but said he is a frequent customer.

 

May 18-

At 8:13 a.m. a Houghton Street caller reported that an unknown vehicle struck his wall at about midnight the night before causing some damage.  The vehicle would have sustained front end damage and appeared to be driving North on Houghton Street towards Bedford Road.

 

At 4:19 p.m. a woman came to the station to report that her iPhone 4S was stolen while she was holding a yard sale at her home. She said she placed it down to assist a customer and later realized it was missing.

Attempts to activate the GPS were unsuccessful as the phone had been shut off. Phone was valued at about $400.

 

At 5:09 p.m. police responded to a Mt. Pleasant Street location on a report of a broken window. Police spoke to the caller who said the rear window of her vehicle had been smashed sometime between the night before and that day. The caller also said she saw a car full of teen pull up and take pictures of the broken window. She gave the license plate number to police.

Police found the vehicle with four occupants, who all denied any involvement.

 

May 19-

At 7:08 a.m. police responded to a Border Street apartment on a call of an attempted breaking and entering.

The caller said she lives in the upstairs apartment and that she has had an ongoing dispute with the neighbor’s below her.

The caller said she believes someone entered onto her second floor deck by way of a rear fire escape. She said when she woke up she saw the storm door on her deck to be open and that she always locks it every night. She saw that the bottom right corner of the screen was pushed in.

A ceramic planter was tipped on its side and there was a small piece of blue paper with the name of one of the neighbors was written on it.

Police called in a detective to dust for prints. The detective also noticed that it appeared the screen was opened from the inside.

 

At 10:31 a.m. police responded to Butaro Road to investigate a breaking and entering a motor vehicle. The caller said that when he went to his vehicle that morning he noticed the glove box was open and had been rifled through. He also noticed a GPS unit had been stolen from the center console. The caller said he thought the vehicle had been locked but there were no signs of forced entry.

 

At 1:33 p.m. a Carter Street caller reported a past fraud. She said she had purchased two Bruins tickets online for $300 with a Money Pak card and that she hadn’t received the tickets. The caller said she called Money Pak and was told the funds had been drained from the card. Police called the number given by the woman selling the tickets but only got an answering machine. They called Money Pak but the office was closed. Police to follow up.

 

May 20-

At 7:54 a.m. police responded to the Rohtstein Corporation on a report of tagging.  The caller showed police the parking lot area where trailers had been vandalized with messages and vulgar images done in spray paint.  The tagging took place sometime over the weekend.

The Pepperidge Farm Business Office was also tagged with similar messages.

 

At 10:41 a.m. a Main Street caller reported receiving threatening phone calls. The caller said that he had received five calls since 10:15 a.m. by a man with a ‘Hispanic voice” who claimed to have the caller’s son and was demanding $1,000 or else he would kill him. The caller said he called his family and everyone was fine. Police said this is likely a scam and the caller was attempting to intimidate him into sending the money.

 

At 11:46 a.m. Police responded to a George Avenue residence to investigate a possible breaking and entering reportedly through a bedroom window.

There were no people or vehicles at the residence when police arrived. They saw a first floor window in the back of the house ajar. The storm window, screen and interior window were all open.

The homeowner arrived and police entered the house. They could hear a burglar alarm going off inside. Police didn’t find anyone inside or anything missing and believe the perpetrator or perpetrators had fled after the alarm went off.
