POLICE LOG: Phone Scammer Turns Vulgar

An excerpt from the WPD police log. The following arrest information was supplied by the Woburn Police Department. The arrest does not indicate a conviction.

At 12:12 p.m. police a woman came to the station to report a scam and harassment. She has that at 9 a.m. that morning she received a call from a man who said she had won $35 million and a car and that she needed to send a $500 pre-paid card. She declined but he called back an hour later encouraging her to get the $500 card from a local Walgreens. When she declined again he asked her for oral sex, using a more vulgar term, at which point she said he was a “dirty old man.” Her husband took the phone and the man once again requested oral sex.

Other Incidents

May 30-

At 11:54 a.m. police and fire responded to a Dix Road residence on a report that a neighbor’s pool had collapsed and water was cascading into their yard. It is unclear how much water was spilled but it did not appear to damage the neighbor’s yard.

 

At 4:30 p.m. police responded to the Residence Inn by Marriott on a report of a breaking and entering of a motor vehicle. The caller said her mother’s vehicle was broken into by means of a smashed out back seat window. The vehicle was parked in the employee parking lot behind Boston Sports Club. She said her purse had been stolen that contained $100 in cash, bankcards, her license and other personal documents.

 

May 31-

At 7:27 police responded to Stop & Shop on a report of a stolen cell phone. The caller said he had just bout a cell phone from a guy and it turned out to be stolen. He bought the Galaxy III cell phone in response to an ad on Craigslist. The caller said he paid $280 in cash.

The caller described the seller as a Hispanic male with short dark hair, light skin, and about 20 years old. He was driving a 4-door Mazda 3.

 

June 1-

At 7:38 a.m. Police responded to a Hovey Street motor home on a report of vandalism. The caller showed police the motor home’s windshield and it appeared to have been damaged with a pellet gun that punched a hole through it.

 

June 2-

At 6:49 a.m. police responded to a Montvale Avenue residence on a report of a stolen motor vehicle. The caller said her vehicle had been stolen from her driveway on Auburn Street sometime that morning. She further said she though her ex-boyfriend may have stolen it and that he has a history of domestic violence. She did not know where he currently resides.

 

At 5:13 p.m. police responded to a Poole Street residence on a report of a Harassment Protection Order [HPO] violation. The caller said he was mowing his lawn when his neighbor sprayed him with a garden sprinkler. He said he has had an ongoing issue with the neighbor and showed police an active HPO.

Police spoke to the neighbor who said he had moved the sprinkler to a garden near the property line and is spun around some water may have gone over the fence. He said he wasn’t near the sprinkler when it happened.

Police told the caller they would provide a copy of the report and he should extend the HPO that was set to expire in late June.
