About an hour later police were dispatched to a Mill Street location for another possible motor vehicle breaking and entering. They found a vehicle that contained car stereo equipment that may have been taken from the vehicle and Spring Court. The owner’s wife came down and confirmed it was the same stereo.
At 4:09 a.m. police responded to the Mill Street on a report of someone trying to break into a vehicle. The caller said she observed a male party in a white t-shirt near her vehicle and she noticed another vehicle parked next to hers was missing all four tires.
Police observed a maroon minivan coming around the corner to exit the lot and when the driver saw the police cruiser he veered around and left at a high rate of speed. He was a male wearing a white t-shirt.
Police attempted to pull over the vehicle but the driver fled away. The vehicle was observed by another officer on Salem Street who began a chase. The operator refused to stop and eventually ended up in the lawn of a Lake Avenue residence, damaging a fence, shrubs and the front lawn.
The suspect then fled on foot. Police called in a K9 unit but they were unable to locate the suspect.
The vehicle that had its tires removed in the Mill Street parking lot also suffered heavy undercarriage damage from the theft and it was towed.
Police checked the Mill Street parking lot and found another vehicle with stereo equipment like that stolen from the Spring Court Extension vehicle earlier that night. Police spoke with the owner who said she was visiting Woburn and had parked the car where police found it the night before. Police asked her about marijuana found in the vehicle and she said she doesn’t smoke marijuana. She also said she did not know where the stereo came from indicating her vehicle was possibly used in the theft without her knowledge. Police warned her of the consequences, a charge of obstruction of an investigation, if she was lying.
Police also found two screwdrivers in her vehicle that could have been used to pop the ignition.
The next morning at 10:52 a.m. police responded to another call at Spring Court Extension on a report of a motor vehicle being broken into. The owner showed police a damaged steering column where someone attempted to pop the ignition in an attempt to steal the vehicle. There was also damage to the passenger side window which had been pried from the frame to gain entrance. Nothing else was missing from the vehicle.
