A proposed mixed-used project at 434 Main Street in downtown Woburn has sparked concerns over accessibility and parking in the area.

The current owner of Tudo na Brasa, a restaurant at 414 Main Street, is looking to obtain a construction permit from the City Council to renovate the vacant building as part of a new project, the Daily Times Chronicle reports.

According to the newspaper, Hugo Moraes plans to transform the building into a mixed-use establishment into a first-floor restaurant, with two floors of residential housing.

After discussing the proposal at a recent meeting, City Council members expressed concerns over parking in the area. Moraes wants potential tenants to park at the often busy parking lot on Walnut Street, which is located nearby. Woburn hopes to install parking meters in the area.

Additionally, Moraes reportedly has plans to install a patio behind the proposed restaurant, but that idea also raised objections. The patio would be situated along a narrow road behind the building that is frequently traveled by delivery trucks. Visibility on the road is limited.

Because of the concerns regarding the proposal, the City Council will pick up discussions on the matter in December.

434 Main Street was formerly home to Galvin’s Market, but the location has been left unused for many years. Despite the hurdles, the Council views the project as a positive investment for the downtown area.
