St. Charles School hosted their annual Evening for Excellence Gala on Friday, November 7, at the Woburn Country Club. The event honored St. Charles School graduate, Kathleen Lucero, with the St. Charles School Spirit Award.
Each fall, St. Charles School sponsors the Evening for Excellence Gala to support programming and operational needs. It is an opportunity for everyone in the school community, including current and former parents, graduates, and other friends of the school, to join together for a good cause.
The evening commenced as Fr. John Capuci introduced the school board secretary and sponsor, Ms. Margaret Pinkham, and he thanked the sponsors of the event, in particular, Benefactors: Northern Bank, and the Hooper Family; Patrons: Lynch Cantillon Funeral Home, North Suburban Transportation, and Rubin Rudman Law for their support. Rev. Fr. Raphael Pinto, of St. Charles Borromeo Parish, expressed gratitude to the Principal, Mrs. Donna Cargill, the teachers and staff and all who were instrumental in making the event possible. Fr. Pinto then led the attendees in prayer, in which he spoke about being inspired by the words from the Bible, “Those who lead many to righteousness shall shine like the stars for all eternity”(Daniel 12:3). He emphasized that every act of teaching, guiding, and serving, whether in the classroom, the office, or behind the scenes, had eternal value. He concluded by playing the song, Shine Jesus Shine.
Each year, a St. Charles School honors a person who embodies their core values of Respect, Honor, Service, Faith, and Effort at the Gala with the St. Charles School Spirit Award. This year, Kathleen Lucero of Woburn was recognized for her efforts in educating many people in the Woburn community, including the third graders of St. Charles School who have benefitted from the Grade 3 Trolley Tours that she and members of the Woburn Historical Society organize.
