The celebration was a CBES tribute to the power of unity, compassion and community, including a lively reception, elegant dinner, inspirational awards program, live entertainment, dancing and a silent auction!
The widespread participation made a significant contribution to the lives of those CBES serves …lives now placed in jeopardy by current fiscal deficits and policy changes that inflict pain on our most vulnerable residents.
Honoring those who make a difference!
Three community and State House heroes received the "Drum Major for Justice" award:
- Dr. Kiame Mahaniah, Massachusetts Secretary of Health & Human Services
- Denella J. Clark, President & CEO, Boston Arts Academy Foundation
- State Representative Thomas M. Stanley of Waltham
The CBES mission has always been to ensure that community members of every age and ability can live with dignity, independence, and joy. But current budget deficits for the state Homecare Programs and potential federal budget cuts to Medicaid loom large. At present, 87 percent of those served by CBES are on Medicaid and these unprecedented budget cuts threaten their access to basic necessities such as housing, food and medicine
Support of this gala fundraiser has helped make it possible for CBES to continue to deliver essential services to community members, reducing isolation and loneliness while maintaining wellness and helping these older friends and neighbors to enjoy their well-deserved golden years. By enabling older residents to age in place in their homes and communities, rather than be placed in expensive institutions, CBES saves taxpayers significant dollars.
