Winter Parking Ban In Effect in Woburn

The following text was provided by the Woburn Police Department Parking Division:

The Woburn Police Department has issued a reminder to all motor vehicle owners that the winter "All Night Parking Ban" on city streets goes into effect at 2 a.m. on Nov. 15.

The city ordinance allowes for overnight parking on the odd side of the street only, between the hours of 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. Vehicles parked on the even side of the street between those hours are subject to a $20 fine.

The parking restrictions, which were signed into law in 1982, remain in effect from Nov. 15 to March 31. The same ordinance allows for the implementation of a total on-street parking ban during snow emergencies. Vehicles parked on city streets during a declared snow emergency may be towed at the owner's expense.

Patrol officers have been ordered to ticket all cars in violation of the ordinance and to report all repeat offenders to the traffic bureau.

The fine for violating the overnight parking ban is $20. If a ticket is not paid within 21 days, a notice will be sent to the owner of the vehicle and the fine will be increased to $30. Fines not paid within 28 days after issuance of the late notice will be increase another $20 with a $15 fee imposed. Tickets will then be sent along to the Registry of Motor Vehicles, at which time the Registry may elect not to renew a person's license until such time as the fine is paid.
