WOBURN, MA — A long running community program at Woburn’s Kennedy Middle School is officially open for the 2022-2023 school year, Woburn Superintendent Matthew Crowley and Kennedy School Principal Carl Nelson announced on Friday.

The Kennedy Closet initiative dates back 15 years. Housed at the Kennedy School, it aims to collect donations from community members to then distribute items back to the community.

The Kennedy Closet accepts nonperishable goods, hygiene products, clothing and shoes, among other things.

Supplies go to families in need in order to help them during weekends and school vacations.

"The closet is a valuable resource for families and students in the school. It runs completely on donations and our goal is to always keep it stocked because the more donations we receive the more families we are able to help," Nelson said in his statement with Crowley. "The community has been tremendously supportive of this initiative over the years and we are so grateful for their continued generosity."
