WOBURN, MA — A Woburn man wanted for six outstanding arrest warrants was arrested Friday following a multi-agency pursuit and a standoff in Rockland, state police said.

Troopers with the State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section learned that Giovanni Acevedo, 47 of Woburn, was in Taunton, the police said. When state troopers, Taunton police and Massachusetts parole officers converged on the residence, Acevedo was seen fleeing in a white Mercedes sedan, "traveling over the front lawn and bushes, nearly striking officers."

All area departments were alerted about the car and troopers began following it north on Route 495.

Soon after, a chase was authorized, but police lost sight of the vehicle after it took Route 24 northbound to Route 104 in Bridgewater, pulled into a Home Depot parking lot, then used a separate exit to drive onto Route 24 southbound, according to the police narrative.

The Mercedes was later spotted again in Raynham and chased by local police through Raynham, Bridgewater, East Bridgewater and Hanson before losing them again.

Finally, a half-hour later, an unmarked state police cruiser spotted the car on Route 53 in Pembroke and followed it into Hanover, where it continued onto Route 139.

The State Police Air Wing and Hanover police responded, with Hanover police beginning another chase while Rockland police laid out tire-deflation devices at the Rockland town line.

At the town line, Acevedo drove the car off the road "in an apparent attempt to avoid the sticks," police said. This ended up disabling his car near the intersection of Route 139 and Bishop Lane in Rockland.

A 20-minute standoff with police followed before Acevedo surrendered and was arrested. Police shut down Route 139 during the standoff.

Acevedo was taken to a hospital for evaluation and is expected to be charged in connection with the chase, as well as the outstanding warrants. No additional details were given on the warrants.

All people are considered innocent until proven guilty.
