Woburn Police Assist With Manhunt Through Wilmington

Several law enforcement agencies assisted with the search for two men after they ran from a traffic stop, reportedly dropping a loaded gun.

Police have reportedly captured one suspect after a manhunt through Wilmington neighborhoods. The search continued into the early morning hours Thursday for the remaining suspect who reportedly ran from a traffic stop, leaving a loaded gun behind.

The first suspect was said to be captured in the area of Main Street at Veranda Street.

The search that began in the wooded area behind Wilmington Plaza Wednesday night moved north along Main Street, the Glen Road area and along Dobson Avenue. The State Police helicopter was also heavily involved in the search.

Details are still developing but there are some unconfirmed reports officers may have pulled over the suspects before they took off and that a loaded hand gun was dropped during the attempted stop. The situation occurred just after 8 p.m. Wednesday night. The suspects fled on foot through the woods and surrounding neighborhoods.

Wilmington Police are advising residents to call 911 to report suspicious person you may see in this area behind Main Street (Ristuccia Ice Rink/Wilmington Plaza) and the Glen Road area streets.

Woburn, Burlington, Tewskbury, Billerica, Reading, and North Reading Police, along with Massachusetts State Police all assisted in the search.

For much of the night, the Massachusetts State Police helicopter had been circling the area to assist in the search. Officials also called in the K9 unit from Burlington.

The State Police Airwing moved throughout the night between the original search area to near the lake and the Glen Road neighborhood.

At approximately 9:15 p.m. one suspect was said to possibly be spotted by St. Dorothy’s on Main Street.

Police and multiple K9s searched yards on several streets in the Glen Road area around that same timeframe. Residents reported searches on Cypress Street, Christine Drive, Harvard Avenue and King Street.
