Woburn School Committee Expected To Vote On Masking Tuesday

The committee lifted the mandate for summer classes in July, but made no decision on the 2021-2022 school year.

WOBURN, MA — The Woburn School Committee is expected to vote on a mask policy Tuesday, according to the agenda for their regular meeting.

The committee decided in July to lift the mandate for summer programs, but they did not make a decision about the coming school year.

District officials will present on coronavirus safety measures Tuesday ahead of the vote, as first reported by the Daily Times Chronicle.

The committee is meeting at at 7:30 p.m. in the School Committee Conference Room at 55 Locust Street. There are in-person and remote public comment options.

The state is requiring districts to reopen with full-time in-person learning models, but so far has left specifics up to districts. The state "strongly recommended" indoor masking for unvaccinated students and staff but Baker said Monday he is not considering a new mandate.

With the recent surge of the delta variant of the coronavirus, some districts have already opted to require indoor masking for the coming year.
