Woburn Seeks Input On New Skate Park Design

Mayor Scott Galvin previously outlined a funding plan for the skate park in a city capital improvement plan over the summer.

WOBURN, MA — Skaters in the Woburn area may soon have new skate park amenities within Woburn thanks to a planned skate park construction project, city officials recently announced.

The first steps of that project are already underway. As such, the city is set to begin working on its skate park design with a construction firm that specializes in skate and bike parks, according to a statement from the Woburn Recreation department late last month.

As part of the design process, officials are prepping for a community meeting on Nov. 21 where community members can voice their perspectives and priorities for the project.

That meeting is set to run from from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Spence Farm in Woburn at 41 Wyman St. Community members can separately fill out a survey online to share their input.

Officials are planning another event at the Simonds Skate Park in Burlington just before this month’s community meeting. There, professional skateboarders Cody McEntire and Julie Brueckler will hold a dual skate session and design input discussion for interested community members. The skate session/discussion is set for Nov. 21 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

A five-year capital improvement plan filed by Woburn Mayor Scott Galvin earlier this year envisioned $175,000 in funding for skate park design and construction over two years beginning with the 2023 fiscal year.

Galvin’s plan did not specify a location where Woburn might locate its new skate park.
