Woburn Students Raise Money for Children with 'Sick Hearts'

One student raised more than $1,000 in his grandfather's memory.

As they have for years, the students of Woburn’s Elementary Schools have raised funds for the American Heart Association’s (AHA) “Jump Rope for Heart.”

This is coordinated between the Physical Education teachers and a representative from the AHA.

Students ask for donations from family and friends, both online and in person. Whether or not monies are collected, all students participate in Jump Rope activities in their Physical Education classes the week before February vacation. Students are also reminded to keep their hearts healthy and ways to achieve that are discussed.

One student, Logan Hallisey, a fifth grader from the Malcolm White School, made it a personal mission this year to raise more money than he normally has collected. His grandfather passed away in November as a result of heart disease.

Logan decided to set a goal to raise $1,000 in his grandfather’s memory. He was determined to make this happen, sending emails to family and friends asking for donations. Logan was successful, passing his goal and raising more than $1,000.

Elementary school students collectively raised $14,000 for boys and girls with “sick hearts.”
