Woburn's Malcolm White Elementary School Hosts Literacy Night

The March 1 event featured activities like Bingo for Books and Sight World Hopscotch, and every child went home with a free book.

WOBURN, MA — Malcolm White Elementary School in Woburn hosted Family Literacy Night earlier this month.

On March 1, 88 families and over 100 students attended the event. The evening included activities like Bingo for Books, Sight Word Glow in the Dark Jenga, Sight Word Hopscotch and craftmaking. During the latter activity, students made bookmarks.

"It was great seeing so many students and families coming together and enjoying a night at school exploring literacy," Malcom White Elementary School Principal Robert Nickerson said. "I want to thank everyone who worked so hard to make it all happen."

The event was organized by reading teacher Jaclyn Desmond and supported by the school's PTO and other staff members. Local restaurants donated pizza for the evening.

Each student in attendance also had an opportunity to choose a free book, which were purchased with Title I funds, according to organizers.
