FAIRFIELD, CONN. - GE announced on Wednesday that it has selected Boston for its corporate headquarters location, igniting great civic pride at beating out other suitors and generated excitement over the prospect of new employment opportunities.

GE already has a significant presence in Massachusetts, with nearly 5,000 employees across the state in businesses including aviation, oil and gas and energy management, according to the company.
