Tractor-Trailer Catches Fire On I-495 In Wrentham

The tractor-trailer was carrying organic produce when it hit a guardrail and ruptured a fuel tank.

WRENTHAM, MA — A tractor-trailer carrying organic produce went up in flames early Wednesday morning after hitting a guardrail and rupturing a fuel tank on I-495 in Wrentham near the Plainville line, reported The Sun Chronicle.

Firefighters responded to the scene at approximately 3:45 a.m. and found the driver already out of the cab. He was examined at the scene by first responders and did not need to be taken to the hospital.

The fire was extinguished in approximately 20 minutes, but an extensive cleanup operation caused significant delays during the morning commute.

According to fire officials, the local health department, Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, and federal Food and Drug Administration were notified of the incident.

The incident remains under investigation.
