Tri-County Students Win 43 District SkillsUSA Medals

Tri-County students took home 15 gold medals, 14 silver medals and 14 bronze medals.

More than 40 Tri-County Regional Vocational Technical High School students won gold, silver, and bronze medals at the District II Massachusetts SkillsUSA Conference, held Monday, March 18 at Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School in Fall River.

 A national, nonprofit organization, SkillsUSA serves high school and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical, and skilled service occupations, through programs on the local, state and national level. It is a partnership of students, teachers, and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled work force. Tri-County students in grades 10 through 12 compete in SkillsUSA competitions.

 Tri-County students took home a 15 gold medals, 14 silver medals, and 14 bronze medals in competitions ranging from Automotive Service, Welding Sculpture and Food & Beverage Service to Internetworking, Advertising & Design, and Basic Health Care. The school’s gold and silver medalists will go on to compete at the State SkillsUSA Conference in Marlborough, held from April 25 through April 27.

“I’m proud of the performance of our high school students at the District SkillsUSA Conference, as they are truly committed in giving their best effort in this important career technical and educational opportunity,” said Jean George, Tri-County RVTHS career technical coordinator. “I applaud their career technical teachers as well in their efforts to prepare the students to be confident and competent in their chosen field."

 Along with the gold and silver medalists, additional Tri-County students will have the opportunity to compete at the state conference in a variety of leadership events. These events include Action Skills, Career Pathways Showcases, Entrepreneurship, Extemporaneous Speaking, Job Skills Demo and Principles of Technology.

 Tri-County’s District SkillsUSA gold medalists were Ryan Cunningham (Internetworking) and Brandon Young (Diesel Equipment) of Franklin, Andrew Kerr (Team Works Team 1 Plumbing) of Attleboro, Harley Keith (Welding Sculpture) of Medway, David MacDonald (Team Works Team 1 Carpentry) of Millis, Cam Krasner (Technical Computers Applications) and Paul Setterlund (Automotive Service Technology) of Norfolk, Keara DeRose (Basic Health Care), Jake Pantano (Power Equipment Technology), and Nicholas White (Sheet Metal) of North Attleboro, Aaron Moore (Team Works Team 1 Electrical) and Joseph Staples (Automotive Refinishing) of Plainville, Dylan Leffort (Industrial Motor Controls) of Rehoboth, and Andrew Burke (Team Works Team 1 Construction) and Andrew Ricci (Computer Maintenance & Repair) of Wrentham.

District silver medalists were Aleana Kilcullen (First Aid/CPR), Christian McCormick (Team Works Team 2 Construction), PJ McLaughlin (Automated Manufacturing Technology Team 3 Machinist), and Emily Scannell (Web Design Team) of Franklin, Christopher Coates (Automated Manufacturing Technology Team 3 Drafter) of Bellingham, Austin Truax (Web Design Team) of Foxborough, Brandon Deveau (Team Works Team 2 Electrical) of Medway, Connor Flanagan (Team Works Team 2 Plumbing) of Norfolk, Adam Bertrand (Advertising & Design), Kyle Culhane (Automated Manufacturing Technology Team 3 Machinist), and Kelsey Michaud (Basic Health Care) of North Attleboro, Nicholas Bibeault (Computer Programming) of Seekonk, and Dillan Hoyt (Food & Beverage Service) and Alex Whearty (Team Works Team 2 Carpentry) of Walpole.

 District bronze medalists were Shannon Croatto (Automated Manufacturing Technology Team 1 Drafter), Zachary Cusak (Internetworking), Nicholas Grassey (Cabinetmaking) and Aidan Trufant (Residential Plumbing) of Franklin, Mary Walsh (Automated Manufacturing Technology Team 1 Machinist) of Millis, Christopher Carlson (Welding Sculpture), Joseph Dicenso (Residential Wiring), Timothy Fougere (Automated Manufacturing Technology Team 1 Machinist), Troy George (Robotics & Automation) and Rachel Giusti (Medical Terminology) of North Attleboro, Kylie Blakely (Basic Health Care), John Ferris (Computer Programming), Fred Holmes (Sheet Metal) of Plainville and David Doherty (Robotics & Automation) of Wrentham.

 Tri-County RVTHS, located at 147 Pond Street, Franklin, is a recipient of the High Schools That Work Gold Achievement Award and serves the communities of Franklin, Medfield, Medway, Millis, Norfolk, North Attleboro, Plainville, Seekonk, Sherborn, Walpole and Wrentham.
