Wrentham Police Chief: Ditch GPS, Use Main Roads To Outlets

Chief said to use main roads, with many alternative local routes blocked, as heavy traffic heads to Wrentham Premium Outlets all weekend.

WRENTHAM, MA — Shoppers at the Wrentham Premium Outlets rocked around the clock Thanksgiving night. Beginning shortly before midnight, and running through about 1:30 a.m., Wrentham Police Chief Bill McGrath said traffic began backing up into Wrentham at center at times.

McGrath said that traffic backups died down as of about 2 a.m., but as of 4 p.m. "the outlets are packed, bustling with shoppers, food carts and food trucks dishing out hot grub, and everyone in a festive mood and very few issues."

McGrath said to expect sporadic backups throughout the weekend, but that Wrentham police would be out throughout the weekend — as they were overnight — help direct traffic and facilitate flow as much as possible.

McGrath also issued a warning to shoppers to avoid using GPS directions using local roads to take them to the outlets.

"Stay on main roads," McGrath said. "Police are blocking alternate routes. Waze and Google Maps have been notified. If you live around her, expect and play for extremely heavy traffic throughout the weekend. Avoid the area, if possible!"
