Man Accused Of Killing MI Wife Expected To Be Extradited To Chicago To Face Murder Charges
Adam Beckerink had served a 93-day sentence in a Michigan jail for beating his wife at her New Buffalo home.
A Chicago man, accused of killing his Michigan wife, is expected to be extradited back to Illinois next week.
Caitlin Tracey, 36, of New Buffalo, was found dead in an apartment stairwell in downtown Chicago on Oct. 27, 2024, according to police.
Tracey's husband, Adam Beckerink, was charged with first-degree murder in October. After serving a 93-day sentence in a Michigan jail, he is expected to be brought back to Chicago to face the murder charge.

Beckerink served the Michigan sentence in the Berrien County jail for beating Tracey at her New Buffalo home in January 2024. There was no trial because Beckerink pleaded no contest and violated a court order.
Police accuse Beckerink of throwing Tracey over the railing of the 24th floor of the east stairwell of his South Loop condo building. She suffered multiple skull and rib factures and her foot was severed.

Police did arrest Beckerink after Tracey’s death because they said he lied on a missing person report that was filed hours before Tracey's body was found. In the report, he said he had not seen her in a month, but his apartment building surveillance video footage had shown the two together on Oct. 24, days before she was found dead, according to police.
He was held for questioning for two days, but released without charges in connection to her death.
Tracey's family sued when Beckerink refused to release her remains to her parents, claiming spousal rights. In November 2024, a Michigan judge ruled in favor of Tracey’s parents, and an Illinois judge lifted the temporary restraining order, giving Tracey’s parents custody of her remains.
Tracey's family has also filed a petition in a Michigan probate court to block Beckerink from any inheritance. They also want to protect the location of her burial site from being disclosed to him, citing a pattern of documented abuse.
