Police believe the two suspected thieves have stolen numerous items across the entire metro Detroit area.

BERKLEY, MI — Two people were arrested Sunday in connection with a string of porch thefts throughout the metro Detroit area, according to Berkley Police.

Amir Walker, 20, of Detroit, was charged with two counts of larceny under $200, but other charges may be coming once investigators identify all the victims. He was placed in jail on a $5,000 bond.

A 17-year-old juvenile from Detroit was also arrested in connection with the string of porch thefts, but police did not say if the teen was facing charges.

Witnesses called Berkley Police on Sunday at 10:55 a.m. that it appeared two people were stealing packages from porches, police said.

Officers then caught the two suspected porch pirates as they attempted another theft on Bacon Avenue, just north of 11 Mile Road, police said. Officers identified the suspected porch pirates as Walker and the 17-year-old juvenile (whom police did not identify).

Police said Walker and the teen were driving a 2010 Dodge Caravan. Inside the van, officers found numerous items and discarded packaging, police said.

Police said many of the items were unclaimed and believe the items were stolen from multiple cities in the metro area over the past two weeks. Moreover, investigators believe the suspected porch pirates had been stealing packages for a lot longer.

Police were still investigating the thefts.

Anyone who may have had a package stolen in the past few days is encouraged to contact their local police department, who may be able to assist in connecting victims to recovered property.
