Ate It: 'Today's Special' at Atomic Dawg

The Berkley restaurant serves up a chicken turkey mole sausage, topped with homemade guacamole and chipotle mayonnaise, all packed in a bun; is it your favorite meal at the restaurant or do you prefer another? Take our poll!

Yours Truly stopped by in Berkley for lunch Friday and tried out "Today's Special," which consisted of homemade guacamole and chipotle mayonaise on top of a chicken turkey mole sausage, all packed in a bun.

The special was served hot off the grill at my table in after a short wait and tasted like nothing I've had before (although, it might be tasty to have the bun grilled).

The gauc was piled on generously and the sausage was well-spiced. Chef Gary Brunner said he used sausage from the Corridor Sausage Co. of Detroit, which doesn't use preservatives.

I paired the "Today's Special" with a Vernor's ginger ale and slips, the restaurant's thinly sliced, light-as-air, freshly made potato crisps. They reminded me of elephant ears at the fair – if only they were smaller and saltier.

The meal was more than a mouthful – plenty for a meal – so make sure you accept the pleasant wait staff's offer of silverware if you decide to try it.
