UPDATED: Berkley Ready to Party Thursday

Two free, family-friendly events – the Jaycee Park Jamboree and a Robina Rhapsody concert – were scheduled, but the concert was canceled due to inclement weather and power outages, organizers say.

Families were to have their pick of free events Thursday in Berkley with the and a both scheduled in the evening, but organizers called off the concert due to inclement weather and power outages.

If you plan to attend the jamboree, keep an eye on the sky and your umbrellas handy because the National Weather Service predicts a chance of showers and thunderstorms.

Director Tom Colwell said the jamboree will go on as scheduled regardless of the weather.

"We're excited. It looks like the rain is holding off," he said Thursday afternoon. "There are some higher points at Jaycee Park where we can set up the inflatables."

Berkley Junior Women's Club member and event organizer Denise Brainard said the Robina Rhapsody concert scheduled for Thursday was canceled due to the threat of storms, as well as power outages in the area.

The event will be rescheduled, she said.

Jaycee Park Jamboree

  • When: 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

  • Why go: The Berkley Parks & Recreation SummerFest event will feature a bounce house, tropical maze, bike decorating, face painting, an obstacle course and more. Popcorn and lemonade also will be available.

Robina Rhapsody

  • When: 7 to 9 p.m.
  • Where: Robina just north of 12 Mile Road in downtown Berkley
  • Why go: Reggie Smith & the After Party will play rock, rhythm and blues. "Bring your lawn chairs and your families," urged Denise Brainard of the Berkley Junior Women's Club. "There will be fun activities for kids, great music and lots of fun."
