Fun Happenings Nearby This Weekend

Participate in the Ferndale Green Cruise, check out a corn festival in Birmingham or a performance of "Henry V" in Royal Oak, rev up for the Woodward Dream Cruise in Clawson, or enjoy music in the park in Huntington Woods.

There's a lot going on in our area this weekend, so we've collected some of the highlights to share with you.

  • When: Events run from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m., Saturday
  • Where: All Green Cruise events will be held at or begin at the "Green Alley" just west of Woodward Avenue at Nine Mile Road and Planavon Street.
  • Cost: Free
  • Why go: The family-friendly cruise hosted by the Sierra Club aims to celebrate the forms of human-powered transit that help keep people and the planet healthy. It will feature bike rides, a 5-kilometer walk, a 25-foot rock-climbing tower, crafts, face painting and sidewalk chalk, as well as free food, refreshments, bicycle tune-ups and massages.

  • When: 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday
  • Where: Parking Lot No. 6 on North Old Woodward
  • Cost: Free
  • Why Go: The morning will include a petting farm, corn shelling, a children’s corn kernel pool, and a children’s craft area provided by Happy Dino Playcare. Samples of locally made corn-related products will be available throughout the event, including roasted sweet corn, popcorn, caramel corn, kettle corn, corn chips and corn bread.

  • When: 8 p.m. Saturday; 5 p.m. Sunday
  • Where: , Crooks Road and West 13 Mile Road, Royal Oak
  • Cost: $20
  • Why Go: The 12th annual Shakespeare in the Park series is under way and this is the last weekend for the group's performance of Henry V. Directed by Sara Catheryn Wolf, the play stars Michael Brian Ogden as Henry in the classic tale as a young king who must prove himself to his subjects.

Down on Main Street Car Show

  • When: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday
  • Where: Downtown Clawson
  • Cost: Free
  • Why go: Experience a pre-Woodward Dream Cruise event that features antique cars, street rods, muscle cars, trucks, boats, choppers and more
  • What else: Interested in registering your vehicle for the show? Download the entry form, and send it in.

Music in the Woods

  • When: 3-5 p.m. Sunday
  • Where: in Huntington Woods
  • Cost: Free
  • Why go: All ages are welcome to enjoy bluegrass and folk music and local artists. Light refreshments will be provided. On Sunday, the high will be 79 under mostly sunny skies, according to the National Weather Service, perfect for a concert in the park.
