Have a Wild Winter Weekend at the Detroit Zoo

The Arctic Adventure-themed event Saturday and Sunday will feature ice-carving demonstrations, talks with zoo keepers, arts and crafts, games and entertainment.

We started our weekend countdown Monday with at the , but today we're going to suggest families brave the wintry weather expected Saturday and Sunday to have a Wild Winter Weekend at the Detroit Zoo in Royal Oak.

The Arctic Adventure-themed event is the first in a series of three Wild Winter Weekends planned at the zoo through March.

  • When: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday
  • Where: , 8450 W. 10 Mile Road, Royal Oak
  • Why go: "Celebrate the arctic chill of winter with ice carving demonstrations and meet some of the Detroit Zoo’s arctic animals with animal enrichment and keeper talks," says the zoo's website. "Activities include arctic-themed arts and crafts, games and entertainment."
  • Cost: Free with admission, which is $15 for ages 15-61, $10 for seniors age 62 and older and military members, $8 for ages 2-14, and free for those younger than 2.
