Switchblade, LSD, Drug Paraphernalia Found in Speeding Driver's Vehicle

A Huntington Woods Public Safety officer reported that he stopped a speeding driver at approximately 1:05 a.m. Nov. 12 on Interstate 696 and discovered a concealed weapon, LSD and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.

The driver, who was headed eastbound, passed the officer, who was stationed on an overpass just east of Coolidge Highway, traveling at 85 miles per hour, according to the report. The officer stopped the driver, who had changed lanes without signalling, just east of Woodward Avenue, the report said.

The officer reported that when he approached the vehicle and the driver rolled down his window, there was a strong odor of marijuana. The driver told the officer the last time he smoked marijuana was approximately a month ago before he was put on probation for a previous drug charge, adding that he had hit a skunk and that may be why his car smelled, according to the report.

The officer reported that he told the driver he knew the difference between the smell of a skunk and the smell of marijuana and asked if the man had any marijuana in the vehicle. The man retrieved a glass smoking pipe coated with residue from the center console, telling the officer that is where the scent came from, the report said. The officer reported that the man, who was not of legal drinking age, pulled out two Jack Daniels liquor bottles when asked if there was anything else illegal in the vehicle.

When the officer's backup arrived, he conducted a search of the speeding driver's vehicle and found a spring-loaded switchblade, LSD and multiple smoking pipes, according to the report.

The driver was arrested and issued a court date and his car was impounded, according to the report.
