Passenger Taken to Hospital After Car Swipes Motorcycle, Police Say

The incident occurred during the evening rush hour Tuesday on northbound Woodward Avenue near Interstate 696 in Royal Oak.

UPDATE, 8:50 p.m.: 
Royal Oak Police confirmed a car sideswiped a motorcycle Tuesday evening on northbound Woodward at Washington.

A female passenger on the motorcycle was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, according to Sgt. Al Carter of the Royal Oak Police.

No alcohol was involved and both people on the motorcycle were wearing helmets, Carter said.

6:15 p.m.: A witness said traffic was rerouted Tuesday evening near the intersection of Woodward Avenue and Interstate 696.

Commuter Kate Rotan of Rochester said she was headed northbound on Woodward Avenue when she was redirected onto the westbound I-696 service drive at approximately 5:30 p.m.

"There were multiple vehicles and lots of people out of their cars and rescue vehicles," she said.

The Berkley Public Safety Department, which also provides after-hours dispatch services for Huntington Woods and Pleasant Ridge, did not immediately have information on the situation; the Royal Oak Police Department could not immediately be reached for comment.

Sirens could be heard wailing throughout the area Tuesday evening.
