Your Guide to Berkley's SummerFest

The festivities continue this week with the Jaycee Park Jamboree on Thursday and a community picnic Saturday.

Berkley's annual Summerfest celebration, which kicked off July 11 with a senior activity day, continues this week with two family-friendly events.

The Jaycee Park Jamboree will be held Thursday and a community picnic is scheduled Saturday. The events, like most on the SummerFest schedule are free.

The summerlong celebration aims to build community and encourage outdoor  physical fitness, according to a press release.

Here's the SummerFest lineup:

Jaycee Park Jamboree

  • When: 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday
  • Where:
  • Why go: The event will feature a bounce house, tropical maze, bike decorating, face painting, an obstacle course and more. Popcorn and lemonade also will be available.

Community picnic

  • When: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday
  • Where:
  • Why go: The kids can enjoy a dunk tank, splash zone and games while parents play horseshoes. Food will be available.

Great Berkley Campout

  • When: Aug. 3-4
  • Where:
  • Why go: Bring your tent and sleep under the stars in your own hometown. There also will be camping demonstrations, a climbing tower, a campfire and more.
  • Cost: $10 per family for Friday evening; $20 per family to stay overnight.

Lil Tykes Tot Lot Day

  • When: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 9
  • Where: 
  • Why go: Let your little ones burn off some energy playing games, singing songs and jumping around in a bounce house. A snack will be included.

Ice cream social

  • When: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 28
  • Where:
  • Why go: Savor a cold treat and visit with your neighbors while you explore the Berkley Parks & Recreation Department's fall program open house.

Family movie nights

  • When: Dusk, Aug. 25 and Sept. 22
  • Where: Community Field No. 2 at , Aug. 25; , Sept. 22
  • Why go: Bring your chairs and blankets to enjoy a movie outdoors. A bounce house, dinosaur slide and maze also will be available for kids.
