September 11 Remembrance and Dedication

the City of Birmingham will host a September 11 Remembrance and Memorial Dedication in recognition of the 10th anniversary of the events of September 11, 2001.

At the event, the City will unveil and formally dedicate a steel remnant from the World Trade Center in memory of those who lost their lives and to honor the sacrifices of the individuals and families impacted by the events of September 11, 2001. The Fire Station will remain open until noon for the public to view the new memorial.

The City obtained the steel remnant from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey earlier this year through a program designed to allow communities across the country to establish memorials in honor of those impacted by the events of September 11, 2001. Funding for the transportation and display costs for the Birmingham display has been provided by the Marjory & Donald Epstein Family Charitable Foundation.
