Update: Heaviest Snow Expected After 8 Tonight
A winter storm warning is in effect until 7 a.m. Monday.
So much for signs of spring. Snow began falling across Birmingham around 3 p.m. Sunday and by 9 p.m., 6 inches had already accumulated, covering the roadways.
According to the National Weather Service, the area is under a winter storm warning through Monday morning.
The most intense precipitation with the storm is predicted to start at 8 p.m. and last until 2 a.m. Monday. Heavy snow and "significant icing" is expected. A total of 4 to 8 inches of snow and ice are possible, according to the weather statement. The ice will happen mostly around Detroit, with more snow in the northern cities, according to the National Weather Service.

The storm is a result of the warm, moist air we experienced this past week mixing with a cold blast of arctic air from the north. It is expected to move quickly through the Midwest and out to the east coast.
Students in already have a snow day of sorts tomorrow; the district's mid-winter break began Friday and students don't return to classes until Feb. 28.

So far, the only closings are the 7:15 a.m. yoga class at . No decisions have yet been made about canceling the 10 a.m. yoga class.
