100 Women Who Care Livingston County Raise $9,000 in 1 Hour

What can 90 women do in one hours time? They can raise $9,000 for a local non- profit Livingston County Charity!

100 Women Who Care Livingston County, met at their quarterly meeting August 7 and received an update from Pastor Tom Tarpley of First United Methodist Church of Fowlerville's Mission House, who was the group's first receipent and received $7,900 in May. Pastor Tarpley gave a short presentation on how the funds received have been earmarked. After Pastor Tarpley's update, three charities were pulled from the “bucket” and their representative each gave a five minute speech about that charity's needs. The group then voted on which charity would receive the funds.

Angela Parth, director of The Livingston Family Center, represented The Connection Youth Services with her winning presentation speaking about The Connection Youth Services need for additional funding. In 2001 The Livingston Family Center opened The Connection Youth Services Program which provides emergency shelter to homeless and runaway youth ages 12 to 22. The Youth Connection Services provides safe, secure housing to youth who do not have stable, safe housing due to neglect, abuse and abandonment. Without these services youth would be sleeping on the street which can place youth in vulnerable situations. Youth who have come to the shelter have often been sexually abused, neglected due to care taker substance use and have nowhere else to turn for help. All services provided through The Connection are free. With the monies received, this group will be able to provide conseling services to assist The Connection with their “Make a Connection” project which consists of providing funds to youth in need of medical care (eye glasses, dental work), books for college, new clothes employment and gas cards to assist them to get to work or school.
