Art & Wine Event to Benefit LACASA

Howell 's MainStreet Winery will host a day of art and wine, on Saturday, May 18, from noon until 7 p.m.

Kindred Spirits: An Event of Art, Spirits and Hope, will feature the works of artists Susan Gilland and Lisa Jarrell. A portion of the proceeds will benefit LACASA, a Livingston County nonprofit that helps victims of child abuse and interpersonal violence.

Gilland of Soul Garden and Jarrell of Expressions of Earth are Michigan artists known for their nature-inspired expressive works infused with organic materials.

Gilland (White Lake) is a self-taught artist who works with various mixed-media including photography, collage and ceramic tiles. She avoids the use of molds to keep her work original, one-of-a-kind, and Wabi-sabi, intentionally striving for perfectly imperfect.

Jarrell (Fowlerville) continually pushes the boundaries of creative possibilities. Mixing organic elements with various acrylic paints, glazes and gels, she achieves unique results with incredible texture and color.

Both artists often compliment their works with meaningful words, hoping to awaken, uplift and enlighten others.

The pair named LACASA to benefit from the exhibit because the theme of Art, Spirits and Hope blends with the nonprofit's mission of providing help and hope for victims of child abuse, domestic violence and sexual assault.

Howell's MainStreet Winery will offer a complimentary wine tasting throughout the show along with its signature house-made Sangria.

The Kindred Spirits event is open to the public and guests are invited to shop the exhibit, chat with the artists and enjoy spirited refreshments.

Howell's MainStreet Winery is located at 201 W. Grand River Ave. in downtown Howell. For more information about the event, contact the winery at 517-545-WINE or visit the website
