Brighton DDA and the Greater Brighton Area Chamber of Commerce Partner to Promote Downtown

The City of Brighton Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is pleased to announce they have entered into a one year service agreement with the Greater Brighton Area Chamber of Commerce to secure marketing and promotional services for downtown Brighton, the DDA District and the Principal Shopping District.

Chamber President & CEO, Pamela McConeghy has tapped Chamber employee, Michelle Miller, to serve as the liaison between the PSD Board/DDA and the downtown merchants and will engage in cooperative event managing efforts with the Chamber. Michelle has been employed by the Greater Brighton Area Chamber of Commerce for more than 6 years and has extensive experience with planning and promoting events, communication and social media. Pamela McConeghy is quoted as saying, “I am extremely pleased the Greater Brighton Area Chamber will be partnering with Brighton’s DDA and PSD as it relates to merchant activities and downtown promotion. Michelle Miller will do a fantastic job, using her many years of experience at the Chamber with event planning and public relations. This is a winning proposition for the downtown businesses, the Chamber and the community at large. I couldn’t be more pleased.” If you have any questions or comments in regard to Chamber business, you may reach Pam at 810-227-5086 or pamm@brightoncoc.org.

The City of Brighton DDA is committed to the enhancement and growth of the downtown Brighton area. The service agreement with the Chamber is the third service agreement they have secured in the past year. In September 2011, the DDA partnered with the Livingston County Small Business and Technology Development Center (SBTDC). Nancy Johnson, Director of the SBTDC explains her role in this way, “The Livingston SBTDC partners with the City of Brighton DDA board to provide technical assistance in areas of business planning, marketing, financial assistance and programs to support small business as requested through the DDA.” She attends monthly DDA meetings to provide ongoing feedback of her entrepreneurial support in the DDA District. If you would like to meet with Nancy Johnson, who provides free counseling services, please contact her at 810-227-5086 or nancyj@livingstonsbtdc.org.

The third partnership secured in February of this year is with the Southeastern Livingston County Recreation Authority (SELCRA). Last October, SELCRA coordinated the “Tridge or Treat” Halloween event in downtown for families with young children. The event was a huge success and prompted SELCRA Director, Derek Smith, to plan family oriented events to bring children between grades of one through six into downtown during the months of June, July and August. Director Derek Smith stated, "SELCRA's partnership with the DDA to program summer kids’ events at the Mill Pond is a community winner. SELCRA prides itself on providing healthy-active services to the community and with the DDA's involvement it allows us to promote the Mill Pond as a vibrant place for those quality of life experiences." If you would like further information on SELCRA’s summer events, please contact Derek Smith at 810-299-4141 or dsmith@selcra.com.

In the words of Matt Modrack, “Success is all about leveraging and partnerships these days and our DDA Board is excited to add the Chamber, SBTDC and SELCRA to the downtown team. Through these service agreements the DDA is tapping into a broad range of business, promotional and event management expertise that will take the downtown to the next level. SELCRA’s children’s programs are geared to the Stroller Moms, a group we are so happy to see downtown!
