LACASA’s CAP (Child Abuse Prevention) Council will host its annual CAP Kids’ Fair from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, as part of the Art in the Park festival in downtown Pinckney.
The Kids’ Fair, offering free entertainment, crafts and information, will take place on Livingston Street, just west of Howell Street (between the Pinckney Diner and the Pinckney Village office), and on the plot of land located behind the Village Office on Howell Street.
As in years past, the Kids’ Fair will feature local agencies and organizations offering important safety and child development information for parents and free make-and-take crafts for kids.
Exhibitors at this year’s fair will include: LESA Early Childhood Programs (Great Start Livingston, Great Start Readiness, Head Start and Early On); Livingston County Sheriff’s Department Mounted Division; LACASA and the CAP Council; University of Michigan Injury Prevention Program and Safe Kids Huron Valley; Key Development’s Parents as Partners in Prevention and the Pinckney Coalition; Karen Bergbower & Associates; Livingston County Catholic Charities; and United Healthcare Community Plan.
Exhibitors will provide information to parents on early childhood development and education, infant safe sleep, hyperthermia awareness, car passenger safety, substance abuse prevention and more.
Safe Kids Huron Valley will offer child bike helmets for $10 each and the Sheriff’s Department will provide free finger-printing.
The CAP Kids’ Fair offers a line-up of free entertainment throughout the day including: a demonstration by Kil’s Tae Kwon Do at 11 a.m., magic with Buddy Moorehouse at noon, balloon sculpting by Twist & Shout the Clown at 1 p.m., followed by the Kid Olympic fun activities. A brief demonstration by the Pacific Island Dancers will be held at 3 p.m.
The fair also will offer pony rides, a petting farm and a moonwalk. Free ice cream will be provided for kids, courtesy of Screams Ice Cream in Hell (while quantities last). Admission to the fair is free. A small fee will be charged for pony rides and the moonwalk.
The mission of LACASA’s CAP Council is to prevent child abuse and neglect and promote a safe environment for children in Livingston County.
CAP offers free programs throughout the year to families, schools, churches and community organizations. These programs focus on preventing different forms of child abuse and teaching adults to recognize and react responsibly to suspected abuse.
Serving Livingston County for more than 33 years, the CAP Council is a designated Local Council of the Michigan Children’s Trust Fund and is funded, in part, by the Livingston County United Way.
